All new and expectant mothers deserve their first baby shower to be everything they dreamed of and more, no matter who you are. Even if you’re a gorilla.
Let’s be real: we all hate logging onto Facebook only to see our timelines flooded with someone we haven’t talked to in years celebrating their little one on the way. Maybe they’re your old high school nemesis or an ex family member you don’t speak to, but either way you’d rather just see some memes and move on, right?
Well, get ready for a baby celebration like any other—and one you can finally get on board with.
The Audubon Zoo in New Orleans is preparing for the arrival of a new little gorilla from first-time parents Tumani and Okapara. Momma Tumani is actually due any day now, and the zoo’s staff explained that she’s getting ‘ready to pop.’ An exciting time not only for the zoo, but for social media too. Bring on those baby pics.
As we patiently wait for the new baby to arrive, what else could the zoo possibly do in the days leading up to the delivery but throw her a proper baby shower. Because, obviously.
It’s actually a lot less cheesy than you may think. On their website, they have a banner announcing not only that Tumani is pregnant, but that she’s giving birth to a highly endangered western lowland gorilla for the first time in over 20 years. No wonder she’s getting a shower, she deserves it after news like this!
I know what you’re thinking: how do I score an invite to this baby shower of the century. Unfortunately if I can’t, than neither can you. However, there definitely are other ways to help that may or may not include an Amazon baby registry.
Yes, I’m serious.
That’s right, they have an Amazon Baby Registry with everything they feel the baby may need, from washable paint to sun dried fruit, should you feel so inclined to help this new mama out. If you’d rather help in other ways, there is also a baby food & supplies fund as well as a toy fund.
While as I write this the baby has still not arrived, plenty of it’s gifts already have thanks to their successful social media call-out. If you’re expecting and need a shower planned pronto, consider contacting the Audubon Zoo—they’ll take care of it for you.
