Popeyes or Chick-Fil-A…Or Wendy’s, Apparently.

There’s no place for corporate decorum when your rep is at stake. And that’s exactly what went down after Popeyes released their new chicken sandwich.

The reception to the new sandwich was positive overall but one glaring topic repeatedly came up. Was it better than Chick-Fil-A’s already established chicken sandwich?

Apparently, Chick-Fil-A had an answer, which they had to share with the world. An opinion that Popeyes wasn’t too keen on.

A certain red-headed woman by the name of Wendy couldn’t help but find it amusing that these kids were arguing over who was the second-best chicken sandwich.

This is when things start to get real interesting. Up until now, it’s just been casual banter that we’re used to from popular customer-facing brands. But when you call a competitor thirsty, you’ve entered a new arena.

An arena Wendy’s was all but ready to enter, pig-tails first. In a series of since-deleted tweets, Wendys fired back with some sass of their own, stating they aren’t surprised Popeyes biscuits are as dry as their jokes…

Popeye’s then hit deep, going after self-made Wendy’s influencer, Carter Wilkerson. If you don’t remember, Carter is the hero who earned a year’s worth of free Wendy’s nuggets for amassing 18 million retweets in a challenge he initiated himself, with Wendys. Back to the story:

Unfortunately, it looks like there may have been a substitution at the Popeyes social media office, as the account made some discernable mistakes trying to fire their comeback.

As you may have noticed, Chick-Fil-A stayed noticeably quiet after their initial tweet. It’s almost as if they deliberately ignited this feud, just to double down and quietly proclaim their chicken sandwich supremacy.

Unfortunately for them, the hype seems to have paid off for Popeyes, as they recently announced they’ve actually run out of chicken sandwiches.

Can Chick-Fil-A regain their foothold in Popeyes temporary absence? Will Wendys continue to seek relevancy or will they instead move their fight to McDonald’s for who has the best nuggets? How will KFC respond? Will we ever find out who has the best chicken sandwich? Only time will tell.
