Have you ever wanted to experience Willy Wonka’s golden ticket hunt in real life? Well get your money ready, kids, because it’s actually happening. Hopefully you like jelly beans.
We’re all at least familiar with the concept behind Willy Wonka and the infamous chocolate factory story. Creepy man hides golden ticket in chocolate bars, boy finds said golden ticket, boy wins an exclusive trip to the never-before-seen Wonka Chocolate Factory with a small group of eccentric children from all around the world. A tale as old as time.
Now, you’d think amidst a global pandemic, this isn’t exactly at the top of everyone’s ‘must-do’ list. Money might be tight, we still really shouldn’t leave the house too often, and we most certainly shouldn’t be traveling across the country leaving little necklaces for someone to find.
But alas, here we are—ready to consume some jelly beans. Jelly Belly’s, to be exact.
David Klein, founder of the empire that is Jelly Belly jelly beans, has announced a new and exciting treasure hunt coming in the next month or so. Announced via press release, Klein and his partner have explained that they will be traveling all across the USA ‘hiding gold style tickets in the form of necklaces in places they come across with an interesting story.’ They also explain that anyone who joins at least one treasure hunt will be eligible for the grand prize, which is ‘the key to one of his candy factories and an all-expenses paid trip and education to a candy-making university.’
Alright, now it’s sounding like they totally ripped off the movie.
Unlike the movie, there’s more to be done to enter other than scavenger hunting and buying their candy. There’s a price to be paid for those serious about the grand prize.
According to their website, the hunt will vary from state to state with it’s own date and time. For example, people in Kentucky will purchase their ticket for October 16th at 11am, whereas those wanting to play in Alabama will purchase their ticket for October 21st at 11am. More and more states will be announced as the competition goes on, and the cost to play is $49.98 USD.
Oh, and if you’re on a social media hiatus, you might want to rethink joining in on the hunt. An active Facebook account is required to play, as entry requires you to join a private forum in order to receive the riddle on the day your hunt begins.
There may not be any Oompa Loompas, and Johnny Depp probably won’t be there, but if you’ve always wanted the key to a candy factory earned through a complicated treasure hunt, make sure you sign up today!
