Salud, my friends! (That means cheers)

Contrary to popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day. Instead, this holiday celebrates the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War on May 5, 1862. However, for many Americans (and just people all around the world), Cinco de Mayo has become a day to celebrate the Mexican culture that is present nowadays in many cities, states and countries.

Even though right now we’re supposed to be staying home, that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate! Nothing says celebration like some drinks, so to commemorate Mexican culture wherever you are, here are some delicious (and easy!) Mexican cocktail recipes you can prepare at home.

This traditional and refreshing cocktail made with beer is super easy to prepare and great to drink during any hour of the day. Perfect for sunny days!

– 1 cold bottle of your favorite beer (preferably lager)

– Clamato

– 2 limes

– Worcestershire sauce

– Tabasco sauce

– 3 tbsp. of chili powder

– 3 tbsp. of salt

Mix the salt and chili powder in a small plat. Rub a slice of one of the limes around the rim of your glass and then press the rim in the salt and chili powder mix. Fill your glass about 1/3 with Clamato. Add a touch of Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce. Squeeze the juice of 1 or 2 lime slices into your glass, and a pinch of the remaining salt and chili powder mix. Fill the rest of your class with your cold beer, give it all a little stir, and enjoy! You can garnish with a slice of lime and add ice if you want an extra-cold cocktail.

Mango-Strawberry Frozen Margarita

Add a little twist to the traditional margarita with this sweet, frozen cocktail.

– 2 cups of mango diced in cubes

– 1 cup of strawberries, cut in half

– ¾ cup of tequila

– 2 tbsp. of Triple Sec

– 1/3 cup of lime juice

– ¼ cup of sugar

– 4 cups of ice cubes

– 1 slice of lime

– 3 tbsp. of salt

Put the mango, strawberries, lime juice, tequila, Triple Sec, sugar, and ice in the blender. Blend it all until you get a thick, even mix. Put the salt on a plate. Rub the slice of lime around the rim of your margarita glass, and press the rim against the plate, turning it around until you get the perfect salt-rimmed glass. Pour the margarita mix on your glass and decorate with a strawberry or lime slices!

Berry Mezcal

Enjoy Cinco de Mayo the Mexican way with this cocktail made with one of the trendiest drinks in Mexico at the time: mezcal.

– ½ cup of raspberries

– ½ cup of blackberries

– 1 tbsp. of sugar

– 2 shots of mezcal

– 1 can of sparkling water

– 1 can of lime soda

– Ice

Put your raspberries in a bowl and mash them slightly. Then, add the sugar and the mezcal. Give it a good stir, and pour that mix into two glasses. Add ice to both glasses, and then fill them up with mineral water and lime soda. Stir again, and add some blackberries on top to decorate.

Whether you prepare them with someone else or on your own, you’ll definitely enjoy preparing these fresh cocktails nearly as much as you’ll enjoy trying them. Get your ingredients ready and get celebrating the Mexican way. These drinks will surely give your week a little flavor and are just the treat you might need today.
